Default What's with the statues in the PlayNC store?

As a big fan of GW and a bit of a nerd probably, I’ve always enjoyed figurines of games.
A while back we had to answer what kind of merchandise we would like to see from GW.
I promptly stated: figurines or statues from GW characters, NPC's or Gods even and some time ago I thought my wishes came true.
In the playNC store ( http://eu.plaync.com/eu/store/merchandise ) was a statue of a Dervish, but boy was it ugly.
The paintjob was probably done by some drunk person and some of the details just don't look right.
Here’s the statue: http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...s/dervish1.jpg

Not giving up hope and checking the store if something new had entered a new statue was offered: OMG!!! Oh wait it’s the same crappy artist
Here’s statue Nr 2: http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ius/Necro1.jpg

While browsing the store I saw the Lineage 2 figures and they looked much better, while made from pvc they looked great.
Looking on the net for more clues about Lineage figures I even saw some limited editions in some Japanese store which looked even more stunning.

The bottom 2 are the limited editions: http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...us/Lineage.jpg
Now I'm not into Lineage so these are not an option.

Now why would they choose the crappy GW statues over the nice looking Lineage ones?
Is anyone buying these statues?
Or would you like to buy statues/figurines, but not these crappy ones?

Please discuss because I would really like some figurines from my most enjoyed game, but with art like that it’s never going to happen.

Hell, even WoW has better Figurines.

The Lineage chicks look pretty sexy. The gw ones don't.

Being a huge toy nerd, I was all for buying these until I saw the paint *cough* jobs on these. Seriously NC, we're not THAT desperate for merch.

These kinds of PVC figures and the smaller "gashapon" dispensed from vending machines are very popular in Japan. They are typically modeled after anime characters, but also game characters. The fans and collectors that buy these types of figures sometimes find it hard to stop, and depending on the nature of the figures, your S.O. may not approve.

I've seen the Lineage ones listed before at various game sites I've visited, but I had no idea that GW versions existed. I was actually hoping they might come out with something like this. I think it would be cool to have a GW PVC statue like a Charr or Tengu to display somewhere on my computer desk.

Where are you seeing these statues at? I don't see them anywhere in the store?

Usually (besides the 3 inch Gashapon) the figures are of a much better quality than the GW ones listed above. Only the Hardcore (desperate) figure collectors would even think about getting either of those.

Neither do I.

Also they do look very very poorly made. I was hoping they'd be good, not buying them like this

Dervish is awful, even the Nightfall painted on the bottom looks horrid. Are these concepts or mock-ups? Surely they aren't selling these....

Eve looks a little better, with some better detail I would buy... she's so iconic anyway.

I'm surprised they don't do a whole Prophecies line: Eve, Gwen, Prince Rurik, Lich, etc.

They don't have to be limited to cover art.

Is it me or if you look in the box ( http://eu.plaync.com/eu/store/item/g...mancer_statue/ ) does the statue actually not look that bad? Guess it's kind of naive / optimistic but still...

That has to be a rendering, not a real picture.

Eh you have to remember they'll look different then the ones in the pictures. Those figures might be taken of real ones while the lineage ones are the perfect doctored ones.
I always wanted to buy a saber figure off ebay, I did it with a Claymore clare one as my first one ever... let me just say NOTHING looks as good as the stock photos they show.

Wow, those look terrible.

A pity, too. I'd love to have a Dervish figure on my desk, along with all of my other geeky things I've collected.
